With the increase in business travel to security-critical regions, the responsibility of employers is also increasing. According to § 618 ff. BGB, companies have a legal duty of care for the safety and health of their employees. This includes comprehensive information about potential risks and travel medical advice before the trip.

For assignments in crisis regions, there is also a duty to provide ongoing information during the stay abroad. If an employee is harmed during an assignment abroad in a country considered to be high-risk, the company is liable if it has provided insufficient information about the risks.

In addition, in an emergency, it means providing concrete support in the areas of medicine and security; a simple foreign health insurance is explicitly not sufficient here.
