The evaluation is based on a five-level scale. Since the different event categories are not comparable, the classifications are based on rules that have been individually defined for each category. Important factors are the number of potentially affected travelers, the extent of the impact, the deviation from the normal state and the duration of the restrictions.
Level 1 is only used for announced events that have not occurred after being included in the Global Monitoring System and have had no impact (e.g. strikes, tsunamis). With a classification of Level 2, travelers should check whether they are affected, as this indicates that a low risk is to be expected, only a few travelers are affected (e.g. when traveling to remote areas) or there is an unclear risk (e.g. weather warnings). From Level 3, special precautions should generally be taken and travel behavior should be adjusted accordingly (e.g. by avoiding areas affected by violent protests).
