The German Federal Foreign Office updated its travel advice for Madagascar on Friday (26 September) and now advises against all travel to the country. The reason for this warning is the escalation of unrest and protests in the larger cities (including Antananarivo, Antsirabe, and Tamatave/Toamasina), which are being forcibly suppressed by security forces in some areas. There are severe disruptions to road and air traffic, and looting is reported in many places. Local authorities have imposed a curfew. According to the Federal Foreign Office, a further deterioration of the security situation cannot be ruled out.
